"What Loss" - The JuJu Exchange Live at Narwhal Studios

"What Loss" serves as the first movement of the oratorio and mourns the displacement of Indigenous peoples, including the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi, from the area now known as Chicago. The composition is a somber ballad that reflects on this historical loss.

The oratorio "Price of Peace" was a collaborative effort involving The JuJu Exchange, the Chicago Children's Choir, and Young Chicago Authors. Julian Reid, a member of The JuJu Exchange, played a significant role in its creation. The Chicago Children's Choir participated in the performance, providing vocal elements that enhanced the thematic depth of the piece.

The collaboration aimed to provide a vision of hope for the city during the holiday season, while also encouraging introspection about the hidden costs paid for Chicago to become a city. The children's choir posed reflective questions to the audience, prompting them to consider the sacrifices made for peace.
